 There’s an expectation to arrive as something coherent. Preferably early. Preferably impressive. “Unfolding” is less cooperative. It suggests that things take their time, that meaning appears late, and sometimes only partially. You don’t become all at once; you reveal yourself in installments, some of them confusing, a few slightly contradictory. It’s not inefficient, just… not optimized. Which, in its own way, is reassuring.
